If you create something the world has never seen before, there’s probably a pretty interesting story behind it.
This is ours.
We are Nando & Rose, a married couple & the founders of Castanea Sicilian Cafe. Both of us have Sicilian roots & we were lucky to have spent every summer on this beautiful Island.
A typical Sicilian lightheartedness, delicious traditional food & the Italian coffee culture is what we grew up with & what we both cherish a lot.
Preserving a Sicilian Way of Life
The idea of Castanea Sicilian Cafe emerged from the desire to preserve our heritage by sharing it. We want to make it accessible to everyone who needs a little break from everyday life and wants to immerse themselves in Sicilian enjoyment and the ideal of il dolce far niente—the sweetness of doing nothing, a Mediterranean meditation.
To honor our roots, we import ingredients directly from Italy—even our doughs. Every day, we bake them fresh in our cafes to deliver the best quality and the most authentic Italian café experience in Los Angeles.
From Sicily to Our Name
Castanea, meaning chestnut in Latin, is inspired by Il Castagno dei Cento Cavalli — the world’s oldest chestnut tree on Mount Etna in Sicily. Legend has it the tree once sheltered a princess and her 100 horsemen during a sudden storm, symbolizing protection and timeless Sicilian heritage. This story mirrors the essence of our cafe: A place of comfort and community amidst the daily storms of life.

With a lot of love and dedication, we blended our passion for coffee, food, and Sicilian culture into an ambiance of warmth and hospitality. Today, we proudly present our unique Los Angeles cafes in Venice Beach, Beverly Hills, and Hollywood.
